Today is a day of Jum'al,

00:00:02--> 00:00:04

and we are encouraged

00:00:05--> 00:00:06

on this day to recite

00:00:07--> 00:00:08

Surat Al Kahf.

00:00:09--> 00:00:11

Our Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam

00:00:12--> 00:00:14

tells us many of the benefits of reciting

00:00:15--> 00:00:16

and connecting

00:00:16--> 00:00:17

to this surah.

00:00:18--> 00:00:19

He tells us,

00:00:28--> 00:00:29

He said, Whoever recites

00:00:30--> 00:00:31

Surat Al Kahf

00:00:32--> 00:00:33

on the day of Jum'ah,

00:00:34--> 00:00:36

Allah will strike forth for them a light

00:00:37--> 00:00:40

that will enlighten between their 2 jumas.

00:00:40--> 00:00:42

From 1 jum'ah to the next, Allah will

00:00:42--> 00:00:44

give this person a light.

00:00:45--> 00:00:48

And our prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam encouraged us

00:00:48--> 00:00:50

to memorize Surat Al Kahf.

00:00:51--> 00:00:53

And he told us in one hadith,

00:00:58--> 00:01:01

That whoever memorizes 10 verses

00:01:02--> 00:01:04

from Surat Al Kahf is protected

00:01:05--> 00:01:06

from the fitna

00:01:06--> 00:01:07

of Adjjar,

00:01:07--> 00:01:08

from the tests

00:01:09--> 00:01:11

and the trials of the Antichrist.

00:01:12--> 00:01:15

And in one hadith, the Prophet says to

00:01:15--> 00:01:15

memorize

00:01:16--> 00:01:18

the first ten verses of the surah.

00:01:19--> 00:01:21

And another hadith, he says to memorize

00:01:21--> 00:01:23

the last ten verses of the surah.

00:01:24--> 00:01:25

Now what is the connection

00:01:26--> 00:01:28

between the surah

00:01:28--> 00:01:30

and between ad dajjal?

00:01:30--> 00:01:33

What is the connection between the surah and

00:01:33--> 00:01:36

between Allah giving you a light in your

00:01:36--> 00:01:36

week?

00:01:38--> 00:01:40

This surah has 4 different stories,

00:01:41--> 00:01:42

and each story

00:01:43--> 00:01:44

tackles a form of

00:01:45--> 00:01:48

a form of test and trial and tribulation.

00:01:49--> 00:01:49

One,

00:01:51--> 00:01:53

the in regards to people's religion,

00:01:53--> 00:01:55

the young people who ran to the cave.

00:01:56--> 00:01:59

Another, a test in relation to wealth, and

00:01:59--> 00:02:01

how does wealth change people.

00:02:02--> 00:02:04

Another is a test in our

00:02:05--> 00:02:05

knowledge.

00:02:06--> 00:02:07

How do we deal with the fact that

00:02:07--> 00:02:10

we don't know everything, and sometimes bad things

00:02:10--> 00:02:11

happen?

00:02:11--> 00:02:13

The story of Musa and Al Khidr.

00:02:14--> 00:02:16

And then finally, the test of power. How

00:02:16--> 00:02:18

do we deal with power when we have

00:02:18--> 00:02:20

it? Which is the example of.

00:02:22--> 00:02:24

And today, I wanna speak about the second

00:02:24--> 00:02:24

story.

00:02:25--> 00:02:26

Wealth,

00:02:26--> 00:02:29

money, the of wealth and money.

00:02:29--> 00:02:32

Allah gives us the story

00:02:32--> 00:02:34

of the man who has 2 gardens.

00:02:36--> 00:02:38

And before introducing this story, Allah

00:02:39--> 00:02:40

tells us something else.

00:02:41--> 00:02:43

He speaks to us about paradise.

00:02:43--> 00:02:44

He says,

00:02:49--> 00:02:52

that indeed those who believe and do good

00:02:52--> 00:02:55

deeds, we will never lose the reward

00:02:56--> 00:02:57

of those who have done goodness.

00:02:58--> 00:02:59

And then Allah says,

00:03:02--> 00:03:03

They will have

00:03:05--> 00:03:06

the permanent

00:03:07--> 00:03:09

the permanent gardens.

00:03:11--> 00:03:13

Flowing beneath them will be the rivers.

00:03:14--> 00:03:15

And Allah

00:03:16--> 00:03:18

describes all of these amazing things about

00:03:18--> 00:03:19

paradise.

00:03:22--> 00:03:25

That it is the best reward and it

00:03:25--> 00:03:28

is the best resting place. Then after speaking

00:03:28--> 00:03:29

to us about Jannah,

00:03:30--> 00:03:31

the real Jannah,

00:03:31--> 00:03:33

the Jannah in the next world,

00:03:33--> 00:03:35

then he speaks about this man and his

00:03:35--> 00:03:36

two gardens,

00:03:36--> 00:03:39

then he speaks about the Jannah in this

00:03:39--> 00:03:41

world, the gardens of this world.

00:03:51--> 00:03:52

Allah says, give them the example

00:03:53--> 00:03:54

of 2 men.

00:03:54--> 00:03:57

1 of them, we gave him 2 gardens.

00:03:57--> 00:03:59

Both of these men have gardens. 2 men.

00:03:59--> 00:04:01

1 both of them have gardens. But one

00:04:01--> 00:04:03

of them was given double.

00:04:03--> 00:04:04

He had 2 gardens.

00:04:05--> 00:04:07

And not just that he had gardens, Allah

00:04:08--> 00:04:10

tells you about his gardens. In it is

00:04:11--> 00:04:12

Many grapes.

00:04:13--> 00:04:14

And grapes

00:04:14--> 00:04:15

is the most luxurious,

00:04:16--> 00:04:17

the most expensive,

00:04:17--> 00:04:20

the most difficult to cultivate of all the

00:04:20--> 00:04:23

fruits is grapes. It requires a lot of

00:04:23--> 00:04:23

water.

00:04:24--> 00:04:26

Allah is telling you he had 2 gardens,

00:04:26--> 00:04:28

and in the gardens he has the most

00:04:28--> 00:04:28

prize

00:04:29--> 00:04:30

of all the fruits, grapes.

00:04:33--> 00:04:34

But he tells you even more than that,

00:04:34--> 00:04:37

we gave him date palms. But we didn't

00:04:37--> 00:04:38

just give him the date palms,

00:04:38--> 00:04:39

we bordered

00:04:40--> 00:04:43

his garden with date palm date palms.

00:04:43--> 00:04:46

All around the borders of this garden are

00:04:46--> 00:04:48

the date palm trees. And if you've seen

00:04:48--> 00:04:49

the date palm trees,

00:04:50--> 00:04:51

they're extremely tall,

00:04:52--> 00:04:54

and extremely sturdy, and strong.

00:04:55--> 00:04:58

The best protection for a garden, if you're

00:04:58--> 00:04:59

worried about the wind

00:05:01--> 00:05:02

harming your garden,

00:05:02--> 00:05:04

the rain, and the wind, and the storm

00:05:04--> 00:05:05

destroying your garden,

00:05:05--> 00:05:08

the best protection would be a wall of

00:05:08--> 00:05:10

these trees all around it. So Allah is

00:05:10--> 00:05:12

saying, not only did we give him the

00:05:12--> 00:05:13

day palms,

00:05:13--> 00:05:15

we gave it to him in an arrangement

00:05:16--> 00:05:17

that protected

00:05:17--> 00:05:18

his garden.

00:05:21--> 00:05:23

And then Allah says, in between them we

00:05:23--> 00:05:25

gave him many crops.

00:05:25--> 00:05:28

So it's not just the beautiful dates, It's

00:05:28--> 00:05:31

not just, the beautiful grapes as well. No.

00:05:31--> 00:05:33

All kinds of crops,

00:05:33--> 00:05:35

filled with crops through all of them.

00:05:40--> 00:05:41

Allah

00:05:41--> 00:05:43

says, Each of these two gardens we gave

00:05:43--> 00:05:44

him,

00:05:44--> 00:05:47

they are producing their fruits, and they do

00:05:47--> 00:05:48

not fall short at all.

00:05:49--> 00:05:52

Both of these gardens are producing the maximum

00:05:53--> 00:05:55

amount of fruit that they can. They are

00:05:55--> 00:05:56

yielding

00:05:56--> 00:05:57

the maximum

00:05:57--> 00:06:00

output of fruits. There's no shortage.

00:06:00--> 00:06:01

There's no spoilage.

00:06:02--> 00:06:03

Every farmer

00:06:03--> 00:06:04

worries about spoilage.

00:06:05--> 00:06:07

Every farmer is worried, I'm gonna plant the

00:06:07--> 00:06:09

seeds, and nothing is gonna grow.

00:06:09--> 00:06:11

Every farmer is worried, I'm gonna plant the

00:06:11--> 00:06:14

seeds and water it, and then it grows,

00:06:14--> 00:06:15

and then there's some pests who come and

00:06:15--> 00:06:17

eat it. Some animals come and eat the

00:06:17--> 00:06:18

whole thing.

00:06:18--> 00:06:21

Some insects come and ruin everything that I've

00:06:21--> 00:06:24

grown. Every farmer is worried a storm wind

00:06:24--> 00:06:26

is gonna come and blow away all of

00:06:26--> 00:06:27

my fruits. Allah

00:06:28--> 00:06:28

says,

00:06:29--> 00:06:32

all of his gardens are producing the maximum

00:06:32--> 00:06:33

output.

00:06:33--> 00:06:35

Everything that he wants.

00:06:36--> 00:06:38

It doesn't fall short at all.

00:06:39--> 00:06:41

So everything that he wants,

00:06:41--> 00:06:44

if you can imagine it, this man is

00:06:44--> 00:06:46

given the best quality of fruits, but he's

00:06:46--> 00:06:49

also given the best quantity of fruits.

00:06:50--> 00:06:51

And then Allah says, And

00:06:53--> 00:06:55

between all of these gardens,

00:06:56--> 00:06:59

we have given him, we have set forth,

00:06:59--> 00:07:00

gushed forth

00:07:00--> 00:07:01

with rivers.

00:07:02--> 00:07:04

So not only does he have the best

00:07:04--> 00:07:04

fruits,

00:07:05--> 00:07:06

not only does he have the most amount

00:07:06--> 00:07:08

of fruits, the best quantity of fruits,

00:07:09--> 00:07:10

but he has the lowest

00:07:12--> 00:07:14

effort and labor required.

00:07:14--> 00:07:16

He doesn't have to walk to a faraway

00:07:17--> 00:07:19

lake, and fill up buckets of water, and

00:07:19--> 00:07:21

drag it, and have people carrying it on

00:07:21--> 00:07:23

their heads, and walk for kilometers, and then

00:07:23--> 00:07:25

throw the water on his foot. He doesn't

00:07:25--> 00:07:27

have to do that. He doesn't have to

00:07:27--> 00:07:27

dig

00:07:28--> 00:07:30

irrigation, dig trenches from another river, all the

00:07:30--> 00:07:33

way to bring yield the water to his

00:07:33--> 00:07:35

gardens. He doesn't have to do that. Because

00:07:35--> 00:07:37

in between his gardens,

00:07:37--> 00:07:40

Allah has given him a natural river.

00:07:41--> 00:07:44

It is gushing forward. There's a lot of

00:07:44--> 00:07:44

water there.

00:07:45--> 00:07:47

It's there for him. He doesn't have to

00:07:47--> 00:07:48

do the labor.

00:07:48--> 00:07:50

It's all there for him. The best possible

00:07:50--> 00:07:51

setup he can have.

00:07:53--> 00:07:55

And then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, and

00:07:55--> 00:07:56

he had fruits.

00:07:58--> 00:07:59

Is fruits.

00:07:59--> 00:08:01

But here sometimes when we say the word

00:08:01--> 00:08:03

fruits, even in English, when we say the

00:08:03--> 00:08:06

word fruits, we can mean literal fruits, like

00:08:06--> 00:08:08

apples and oranges and things like that, or

00:08:08--> 00:08:10

we can say the fruits of something like

00:08:10--> 00:08:11

a luxury.

00:08:12--> 00:08:13

Right? We use the word even in English.

00:08:13--> 00:08:15

We can use to mean a luxury, fruits

00:08:15--> 00:08:16

to mean a luxury.

00:08:16--> 00:08:20

And here, because Allah already described the literal

00:08:20--> 00:08:20

fruits,

00:08:21--> 00:08:21

he already

00:08:22--> 00:08:24

described the the grapes, and he described the

00:08:24--> 00:08:27

date palms, and he described the crops,

00:08:27--> 00:08:30

this is not the reference to his literal

00:08:30--> 00:08:31

fruits. This is

00:08:32--> 00:08:34

saying, above his fruits he has luxuries.

00:08:35--> 00:08:37

We would understand this first

00:08:38--> 00:08:38

to mean

00:08:39--> 00:08:40

he has horses.

00:08:41--> 00:08:43

He has livestock.

00:08:44--> 00:08:45

He has money.

00:08:46--> 00:08:49

He has gold. He has silver. He has

00:08:49--> 00:08:51

luxuries even more than what's growing in his

00:08:51--> 00:08:52

garden.

00:08:52--> 00:08:54

He has everything you can think of. Allah

00:08:54--> 00:08:56

has given him all of it.

00:08:57--> 00:08:59

Now what happens when a person has all

00:08:59--> 00:09:01

the wealth that they want? This is the

00:09:01--> 00:09:04

test of wealth. Can the wealth change the

00:09:04--> 00:09:05

person?

00:09:05--> 00:09:06

Allah says,

00:09:12--> 00:09:14

He said to his companion while he's having

00:09:14--> 00:09:17

a discussion with him, I am greater than

00:09:17--> 00:09:17

you

00:09:18--> 00:09:21

in wealth, and I am mightier and more

00:09:21--> 00:09:23

noble than you in my children.

00:09:23--> 00:09:26

He's saying, I have more than you, and

00:09:26--> 00:09:27

I'm better than you.

00:09:27--> 00:09:29

He's talking to his friend and telling him

00:09:29--> 00:09:32

this. Now realize, the other verses that are

00:09:32--> 00:09:35

describing this garden that he has, what does

00:09:35--> 00:09:36

Allah say?

00:09:37--> 00:09:38

We gave him.

00:09:39--> 00:09:40

And we are the one who set poured

00:09:40--> 00:09:43

forth his rivers. Allah is saying, we gave

00:09:43--> 00:09:45

him this. But what does he say when

00:09:45--> 00:09:46

he speaks about his wealth?

00:09:47--> 00:09:47

He

00:09:47--> 00:09:48

says, I have.

00:09:50--> 00:09:51

I am better than you.

00:09:52--> 00:09:53

I have more than you.

00:09:53--> 00:09:56

Right? He ascribes what he has to himself.

00:09:57--> 00:10:00

I did this. I made this. I have

00:10:00--> 00:10:01

this.

00:10:01--> 00:10:03

And this is the way that men become

00:10:03--> 00:10:03

feeble,

00:10:04--> 00:10:07

deluded with arrogance. We assume it's because of

00:10:07--> 00:10:10

my intelligence, my hard work, my genius that

00:10:10--> 00:10:11

I have all this money.

00:10:12--> 00:10:14

And despite all of your beautiful thoughts, and

00:10:14--> 00:10:16

all of your energy, and all of your

00:10:16--> 00:10:17

hard work, you would have nothing

00:10:17--> 00:10:20

without Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Without Allah giving

00:10:20--> 00:10:22

you opportunity. Yes, you worked hard, do not

00:10:22--> 00:10:24

deny it, you worked hard, but Allah gave

00:10:24--> 00:10:25

you opportunities.

00:10:26--> 00:10:28

Yes. You had a brilliant idea. Allah gave

00:10:28--> 00:10:31

you that idea. Put it into your head.

00:10:31--> 00:10:33

Everything you have came from Allah subhanahu wa

00:10:33--> 00:10:35

ta'ala. But this person assumes

00:10:36--> 00:10:37

that it all came from him.

00:10:41--> 00:10:43

Allah says he entered into his garden, and

00:10:43--> 00:10:45

he is harming himself.

00:10:45--> 00:10:46

He's wronging himself

00:10:47--> 00:10:49

because, subhanAllah, his arrogance,

00:10:49--> 00:10:52

no matter how much his arrogance makes him

00:10:52--> 00:10:54

harm other people, in reality, the one he

00:10:54--> 00:10:56

is harming the most is himself.

00:10:57--> 00:10:59

His arrogance is bringing him down. His arrogance

00:10:59--> 00:11:02

is taking him away from Jannah, making him

00:11:02--> 00:11:03

amongst the people of the hellfire.

00:11:05--> 00:11:07

And so Allah describes him as being unjust

00:11:07--> 00:11:08

to himself

00:11:09--> 00:11:11

because your arrogance destroys you more than anyone

00:11:11--> 00:11:12

else.

00:11:13--> 00:11:14

And then he says,

00:11:14--> 00:11:16

as he enters his garden,

00:11:20--> 00:11:22

I do not think that this will ever

00:11:22--> 00:11:23

perish.

00:11:24--> 00:11:26

This wealth that I have, these gardens that

00:11:26--> 00:11:27

I have, I don't think they will ever

00:11:27--> 00:11:28

go away.

00:11:29--> 00:11:30

They're so amazing,

00:11:30--> 00:11:31

so protected,

00:11:32--> 00:11:32

so beautiful,

00:11:33--> 00:11:34

so plentiful

00:11:35--> 00:11:37

that I think they will remain forever.

00:11:37--> 00:11:40

Now before Allah told us these stories, what

00:11:40--> 00:11:42

did he tell us about? Jannah.

00:11:43--> 00:11:44

He told us about

00:11:44--> 00:11:46

the real permanent Jannahs,

00:11:46--> 00:11:49

the real permanent gardens, which are the gardens

00:11:49--> 00:11:50

of Jannah.

00:11:50--> 00:11:53

So this person has deluded himself.

00:11:53--> 00:11:54

Now why is this the case? Why is

00:11:54--> 00:11:56

he making this assumption?

00:11:57--> 00:11:58

Why is he saying this?

00:12:01--> 00:12:02

He says, another assumption.

00:12:07--> 00:12:09

And I don't think that the hereafter will

00:12:09--> 00:12:10

ever be established.

00:12:16--> 00:12:17

And if I do go back to my

00:12:17--> 00:12:19

Lord, I will find something even better than

00:12:19--> 00:12:20

what I have here.

00:12:21--> 00:12:24

He's making another assumption. There is no hereafter.

00:12:24--> 00:12:26

There is no day of judgment. I don't

00:12:26--> 00:12:28

think the day of judgment will happen.

00:12:28--> 00:12:30

This might seem disconnected.

00:12:30--> 00:12:32

What does this idea of there is no

00:12:32--> 00:12:34

day of judgment have to do with his

00:12:34--> 00:12:36

money, and his wealth, and his arrogance? You

00:12:36--> 00:12:38

see what happens is you become so engrossed

00:12:38--> 00:12:39

in the dunya,

00:12:40--> 00:12:42

so invested in the dunya, so singularly

00:12:43--> 00:12:44

focused on the dunya,

00:12:45--> 00:12:46

that the person starts

00:12:47--> 00:12:49

to have these evil assumptions about the akhira.

00:12:49--> 00:12:51

He says, there is no akhira

00:12:52--> 00:12:54

because his heart and his mind is so

00:12:54--> 00:12:55

invested in the dulia.

00:12:56--> 00:12:58

And then he says, and even if I

00:12:58--> 00:13:00

do go back to my lord, I will

00:13:00--> 00:13:01

find

00:13:01--> 00:13:02

good things over there too.

00:13:03--> 00:13:04

Now why does he make this assumption?

00:13:05--> 00:13:06

Why does he assume

00:13:06--> 00:13:08

if I go back in front of my

00:13:08--> 00:13:10

lord, I will have jannas as well?

00:13:11--> 00:13:15

Because he thinks that since I have money

00:13:15--> 00:13:16

and wealth here in the dunya,

00:13:17--> 00:13:19

this means I will always have money and

00:13:19--> 00:13:20

wealth.

00:13:21--> 00:13:23

Because the fact that I have money and

00:13:23--> 00:13:24

wealth here in the dunya

00:13:24--> 00:13:27

means that Allah is happy with me.

00:13:28--> 00:13:29

So if there is an afira,

00:13:31--> 00:13:32

I'll be okay.

00:13:33--> 00:13:36

Allah talks about this mentality in many places

00:13:36--> 00:13:36

in the Quran.

00:13:41--> 00:13:43

Allah says, ask for mankind.

00:13:43--> 00:13:46

If his lord tests him, gives him

00:13:46--> 00:13:47

tests.

00:13:47--> 00:13:48

What is

00:13:49--> 00:13:50

the For Akroma.

00:13:51--> 00:13:53

He has honored him.

00:13:54--> 00:13:54

He gave him

00:13:55--> 00:13:56

generosity.

00:13:58--> 00:13:59

Gave him luxury.

00:14:01--> 00:14:04

He will say, my Lord has honored me.

00:14:04--> 00:14:06

Allah tested him with money,

00:14:06--> 00:14:07

so he said,

00:14:08--> 00:14:10

Allah loves me. Allah is taking care of

00:14:10--> 00:14:11

me.

00:14:13--> 00:14:15

But if Allah tests him,

00:14:17--> 00:14:19

and Allah restricted his money.

00:14:20--> 00:14:21

Both are tests.

00:14:21--> 00:14:24

The first person was tested with money, Allah

00:14:24--> 00:14:25

gave him generosity.

00:14:26--> 00:14:28

The second person is tested with no money,

00:14:28--> 00:14:29

with restricted money.

00:14:31--> 00:14:34

He says, my Lord has dishonored me. My

00:14:34--> 00:14:37

Lord has humiliated me. What does Allah say

00:14:37--> 00:14:39

to this mentality? This is the mentality he's

00:14:39--> 00:14:41

describing. What does he say about this mentality?

00:14:42--> 00:14:44

He rejects it.

00:14:45--> 00:14:47

No. This is all to be dismissed.

00:14:48--> 00:14:49

And then he says,

00:14:51--> 00:14:53

rather you are not honoring the orphan.

00:14:54--> 00:14:56

What Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is saying,

00:14:56--> 00:14:59

the sign of whether Allah loves you or

00:14:59--> 00:15:00

doesn't love you is not whether he gave

00:15:00--> 00:15:02

you money or didn't give you money. The

00:15:02--> 00:15:04

sign of whether he loves you or doesn't

00:15:04--> 00:15:06

love you is did he allow you to

00:15:06--> 00:15:07

do good deeds?

00:15:07--> 00:15:09

Did you take care of the orphan?

00:15:10--> 00:15:11

Did you feed the hungry?

00:15:12--> 00:15:13

Were you doing good deeds?

00:15:14--> 00:15:16

Because this dunya is not worth much. The

00:15:16--> 00:15:19

prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says,

00:15:26--> 00:15:28

That Allah gives the dunya to those whom

00:15:28--> 00:15:30

he loves and those who he does not

00:15:30--> 00:15:33

love, but he does not give faith except

00:15:33--> 00:15:34

to those whom he loves.

00:15:37--> 00:15:39

Allah says we give to all of them,

00:15:39--> 00:15:41

this group and this group. The believers, the

00:15:41--> 00:15:41

disbelievers.

00:15:42--> 00:15:44

The dunya, ummah will give it, because it's

00:15:44--> 00:15:45

not worth much.

00:15:46--> 00:15:48

And this idea, this prosperity doctrine, by the

00:15:48--> 00:15:49

way,

00:15:49--> 00:15:51

it's called the prosperity doctrine, very well known

00:15:51--> 00:15:52

amongst Christianity.

00:15:53--> 00:15:55

You go to the pastor and they're raising

00:15:55--> 00:15:57

money, and they buy private jet after private

00:15:57--> 00:15:59

jet. We're trying to put flooring.

00:16:00--> 00:16:02

They're buying private jets. And then you go

00:16:02--> 00:16:03

to them and say, How are you doing

00:16:03--> 00:16:05

this? You're taking all these people's money, and

00:16:05--> 00:16:08

you're buying private jets and luxury for yourself?

00:16:08--> 00:16:09

He says, no, no, no. Look at my

00:16:09--> 00:16:12

Bible. When I have this money, it means

00:16:12--> 00:16:13

that God loves me.

00:16:14--> 00:16:15

This is the prosperity doctrine.

00:16:15--> 00:16:17

So it's actually good for me to take

00:16:17--> 00:16:19

all this money and buy the private jets.

00:16:21--> 00:16:22

This is the prosperity doctrine.

00:16:23--> 00:16:25

And we Muslims have been infected with it

00:16:25--> 00:16:26

in many different ways.

00:16:27--> 00:16:29

Amongst those ways

00:16:29--> 00:16:30

is we look

00:16:32--> 00:16:34

to the people who have money and wealth,

00:16:34--> 00:16:35

and we say to ourselves,

00:16:37--> 00:16:39

the fact that they have money and wealth

00:16:39--> 00:16:40

and power

00:16:40--> 00:16:42

means we should follow them.

00:16:43--> 00:16:44

Look at the people in the West, look

00:16:44--> 00:16:45

at this haircut, we should get the same

00:16:45--> 00:16:47

haircut. Look at the clothes they wear, we

00:16:47--> 00:16:49

should wear the same clothes. Okay, fine, whatever.

00:16:49--> 00:16:50

The haircuts and clothes are not a big

00:16:50--> 00:16:52

deal. But then they say, look, their women

00:16:52--> 00:16:54

don't wear hijab, our women should not wear

00:16:54--> 00:16:55

hijab.

00:16:55--> 00:16:57

Look, they have no haya between men and

00:16:57--> 00:16:59

women, there's no modesty, let us also have

00:16:59--> 00:17:01

the same thing. Why?

00:17:02--> 00:17:04

Because they say America and the west has

00:17:04--> 00:17:05

all the power and the money,

00:17:06--> 00:17:07

Therefore, we should follow them.

00:17:08--> 00:17:09

It's the same mentality.

00:17:11--> 00:17:13

Allah is telling you money and power does

00:17:13--> 00:17:14

not mean anything in this world.

00:17:15--> 00:17:16

It It does not mean that Allah loves

00:17:16--> 00:17:18

the person. It does not mean they are

00:17:18--> 00:17:19

worth following,

00:17:19--> 00:17:20

they are worth imitating.

00:17:20--> 00:17:22

It doesn't mean we follow their footsteps.

00:17:33--> 00:17:36

His companion now speaks to him and tells

00:17:36--> 00:17:38

him, have you disbelieved in your Lord who

00:17:38--> 00:17:39

created you from dust?

00:17:40--> 00:17:42

Notice in the beginning, the first thing this

00:17:42--> 00:17:44

man says to his friend is what?

00:17:47--> 00:17:48

He insults him. He says, I'm better than

00:17:48--> 00:17:50

you. I have more money than you. I

00:17:50--> 00:17:51

have more children than you.

00:17:52--> 00:17:54

Right? Usually when somebody speaks to us like

00:17:54--> 00:17:56

that, what happens? Our ego comes out. Our

00:17:56--> 00:17:58

ego comes out. Somebody tells you that, my

00:17:58--> 00:18:00

kids are better than you, my my car

00:18:00--> 00:18:01

is better than you, my house is better

00:18:01--> 00:18:03

than you, what happens? You get upset. Your

00:18:03--> 00:18:05

house is garbage. Your kids are this, right?

00:18:05--> 00:18:08

We want to respond back to him. He

00:18:08--> 00:18:09

doesn't respond for himself.

00:18:10--> 00:18:11

When does he respond?

00:18:12--> 00:18:15

When the person says there's no akhira. And

00:18:15--> 00:18:18

he says, Are you disbelieving in your Lord?

00:18:18--> 00:18:20

Are you rejecting Allah

00:18:23--> 00:18:25

Are you rejecting the one who has created

00:18:25--> 00:18:27

you? And by the way, this mentality is

00:18:27--> 00:18:28

the way of our prophet sallallahu alaihi wa

00:18:28--> 00:18:31

sallam. Because the prophet Aisha says the prophet

00:18:31--> 00:18:33

never got upset for his own sake. Only

00:18:33--> 00:18:35

when the rights of Allah were taken away,

00:18:35--> 00:18:37

then the prophet would get upset.

00:18:38--> 00:18:41

So he's speaking up when the person is

00:18:41--> 00:18:42

rejecting Allah

00:18:47--> 00:18:49

Your Lord created you from dirt, from dust.

00:18:50--> 00:18:51

Then from a drop.

00:18:53--> 00:18:55

Then he made you into a man.

00:18:55--> 00:18:56

Why is he telling him this?

00:18:57--> 00:18:59

Because he can see this man's arrogance is

00:18:59--> 00:19:00

overtaking him.

00:19:01--> 00:19:03

So he tells he's trying to humble him.

00:19:03--> 00:19:05

1 of the scholars of the salaf, he

00:19:05--> 00:19:07

saw a man, a rich man, son of

00:19:07--> 00:19:09

a king or something, he's walking, he's he's

00:19:09--> 00:19:09

strutting

00:19:10--> 00:19:11

with arrogance. He tells him, Allah does not

00:19:11--> 00:19:12

love this walk.

00:19:13--> 00:19:15

The man tells him, I say, Harishni, do

00:19:15--> 00:19:17

you know who I am? Like I'm a

00:19:17--> 00:19:18

big deal. Do you know who I am?

00:19:18--> 00:19:20

He says, yes, I know who you are.

00:19:21--> 00:19:21

He says,

00:19:29--> 00:19:31

He says, your beginning

00:19:32--> 00:19:34

was an impure drop.

00:19:35--> 00:19:37

Your end will be a rotting corpse.

00:19:38--> 00:19:40

And between these two states, you are carrying

00:19:40--> 00:19:41

your impurities.

00:19:42--> 00:19:44

When we relieve ourselves in the washroom, this

00:19:44--> 00:19:45

is what you're carrying.

00:19:45--> 00:19:47

This is every human being. He says, this

00:19:47--> 00:19:49

is what you are. Why? He's trying to

00:19:49--> 00:19:50

make him humble.

00:19:50--> 00:19:52

So he's telling him, Allah, you are from

00:19:52--> 00:19:53

dirt. Allah made you from dirt.

00:19:55--> 00:19:57

The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said

00:19:59--> 00:20:01

All of you came from Adam, and Adam

00:20:01--> 00:20:02

was made from dirt.

00:20:03--> 00:20:04

So be humble.

00:20:06--> 00:20:07

He says,

00:20:10--> 00:20:12

Rather he is Allah, my Lord, and I

00:20:12--> 00:20:14

do not associate anyone

00:20:14--> 00:20:15

with my lord.

00:20:15--> 00:20:17

I do not do shirk

00:20:17--> 00:20:19

with my lord. Now what is the shirk

00:20:19--> 00:20:22

happening here? Did this person build an idol

00:20:22--> 00:20:24

and worship it and prostrate to it? No.

00:20:24--> 00:20:26

Did he say the sun is God, the

00:20:26--> 00:20:28

moon is God, and worship it? No. He

00:20:28--> 00:20:29

didn't do that. What is the shirk that

00:20:29--> 00:20:32

is happening here? The shirk is that this

00:20:32--> 00:20:33

person's ego is being worshiped.

00:20:35--> 00:20:38

He is worshiping himself. He's worshiping his ego.

00:20:38--> 00:20:40

And so he's telling him, I don't do

00:20:40--> 00:20:41

* with my lord.

00:20:48--> 00:20:49

He He said, why isn't it that when

00:20:49--> 00:20:51

you entered into your garden, why didn't you

00:20:51--> 00:20:52

say,

00:20:54--> 00:20:55

this is what Allah willed?

00:20:56--> 00:20:58

Meaning, this came from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

00:20:58--> 00:20:59

This didn't come from me. This came from

00:20:59--> 00:21:01

Allah, Asoja. Why didn't you say that?

00:21:03--> 00:21:05

There is no power except through Allah. The

00:21:05--> 00:21:06

prophet said,

00:21:08--> 00:21:10

The prophet said, increase as often as you

00:21:10--> 00:21:11

can by saying.

00:21:13--> 00:21:15

This is a door to enter Jannah.

00:21:17--> 00:21:20

Whenever you feel delusion, you feel arrogance, you

00:21:20--> 00:21:20

feel jealousy,

00:21:21--> 00:21:22

remind yourself

00:21:23--> 00:21:24

everything came from Allah

00:21:27--> 00:21:29

Even in our adan, we hear in the

00:21:29--> 00:21:29

adan,

00:21:31--> 00:21:32

Why?

00:21:33--> 00:21:35

We don't wanna be arrogant in our prayer.

00:21:35--> 00:21:36

Stand there, say, I'm the best, I'm praying,

00:21:36--> 00:21:38

all these other people are not praying, I'm

00:21:38--> 00:21:39

way better than all of them. We don't

00:21:39--> 00:21:42

wanna come to prayer with arrogance. We wanna

00:21:42--> 00:21:44

remind ourselves, even our coming to prayer came

00:21:44--> 00:21:46

from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Even our good

00:21:46--> 00:21:48

deeds is because Allah allowed it.

00:21:52--> 00:21:54

If you see me as being less than

00:21:54--> 00:21:55

you in wealth,

00:21:56--> 00:21:57

as being less than you in children,

00:21:58--> 00:21:59

This is you insulting me in the beginning.

00:21:59--> 00:22:01

You're insulting me and saying this, if you

00:22:01--> 00:22:01

see this,

00:22:03--> 00:22:05

perhaps my lord will give me better.

00:22:10--> 00:22:12

Perhaps my lord will give me better than

00:22:12--> 00:22:14

your agenda. In the he'll give me better

00:22:14--> 00:22:15

better.

00:22:18--> 00:22:20

And he could send against your garden a

00:22:20--> 00:22:22

calamity from the sky.

00:22:24--> 00:22:26

And it will become smooth, and dirty, and

00:22:26--> 00:22:28

destroyed. Why is he telling him this? He's

00:22:28--> 00:22:31

telling him, why are you being arrogant? This

00:22:31--> 00:22:33

garden that you think is gonna last forever,

00:22:33--> 00:22:35

it could go away in a minute.

00:22:36--> 00:22:36

Allah

00:22:37--> 00:22:38

could destroy it in a minute if he

00:22:38--> 00:22:40

wants. Why are you being arrogant?

00:22:40--> 00:22:42

And just as he's telling him this,

00:22:44--> 00:22:45

or the water could spoil,

00:22:46--> 00:22:47

and it's already sunk it could be sunken

00:22:47--> 00:22:49

into the ground, and you can't extract it

00:22:49--> 00:22:50

again.

00:22:51--> 00:22:52

While he's telling him this,

00:22:53--> 00:22:54

the destruction comes.

00:22:56--> 00:22:57

His fruits are destroyed.

00:22:59--> 00:23:00

Allah spent verses

00:23:01--> 00:23:02

describing the garden,

00:23:03--> 00:23:04

and in two words,

00:23:05--> 00:23:07

In two words, the garden is gone. And

00:23:07--> 00:23:09

this is the indication of how quickly

00:23:10--> 00:23:12

it was removed, how quickly it was gone.

00:23:12--> 00:23:14

The garden, he thought, would be there forever.

00:23:18--> 00:23:19

He started to

00:23:19--> 00:23:22

churn his hands in regret. I spent all

00:23:22--> 00:23:23

my money, I spent all my time, I

00:23:23--> 00:23:25

spent all my effort building these gardens, now

00:23:25--> 00:23:26

they're gone.

00:23:31--> 00:23:33

And the ceiling of the garden has become

00:23:34--> 00:23:36

its ground. It's been turned upside down.

00:23:39--> 00:23:41

And he says, how I wish I didn't

00:23:41--> 00:23:43

worship alongside Allah anyone else.

00:23:49--> 00:23:51

And there was no group that could aid

00:23:51--> 00:23:53

him or help him against Allah nor can

00:23:53--> 00:23:56

defend him. He was boasting about all the

00:23:56--> 00:23:57

children that he has and all the power

00:23:57--> 00:23:59

that he has and nothing could help him

00:23:59--> 00:24:01

when the time came.

00:24:24--> 00:24:25

Today, in the past few days,

00:24:26--> 00:24:27

there have been students, as many of you

00:24:27--> 00:24:29

have heard, protesting in different

00:24:30--> 00:24:32

universities across America,

00:24:32--> 00:24:32

colleges.

00:24:34--> 00:24:35

Many of them are protesting

00:24:35--> 00:24:37

the genocide happening right now in Gaza to

00:24:37--> 00:24:39

our brothers and sisters.

00:24:39--> 00:24:42

And they're protesting that their universities are invested

00:24:42--> 00:24:44

in this state that is committing genocide.

00:24:46--> 00:24:48

And in return, these students, many of whom

00:24:48--> 00:24:49

are Muslim,

00:24:49--> 00:24:50

are being told,

00:24:51--> 00:24:52

if you do this,

00:24:52--> 00:24:54

you won't get a job.

00:24:55--> 00:24:57

They're being told, if you do this, you'll

00:24:57--> 00:24:57

be blacklisted.

00:24:59--> 00:25:01

If you do this, you'll be expelled from

00:25:01--> 00:25:03

your school, you'll be banned from your campus,

00:25:03--> 00:25:05

you won't be able to finish your degree.

00:25:05--> 00:25:07

All of this is threatening them with their

00:25:07--> 00:25:08

livelihood.

00:25:09--> 00:25:11

This surah, as we said at the very

00:25:11--> 00:25:13

beginning, the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,

00:25:13--> 00:25:15

one hadith, whoever memorizes the first ten verses,

00:25:15--> 00:25:18

another hadith, whoever memorizes the last ten verses

00:25:18--> 00:25:20

will be protected from the fitna

00:25:20--> 00:25:21

of Adjjad.

00:25:22--> 00:25:25

One of the ahadith about Adjjad says that

00:25:25--> 00:25:26

when he comes,

00:25:26--> 00:25:28

he will threaten people with livelihood.

00:25:29--> 00:25:30

So much so,

00:25:30--> 00:25:32

that the people who follow him will get

00:25:32--> 00:25:34

rain, and those who don't will experience

00:25:35--> 00:25:35

a drought.

00:25:38--> 00:25:38

Understanding this,

00:25:39--> 00:25:41

it becomes imminently

00:25:43--> 00:25:43

important

00:25:45--> 00:25:46

for us

00:25:46--> 00:25:48

to understand the lessons of this surah.

00:25:49--> 00:25:51

That this money

00:25:51--> 00:25:53

is in the hands of Allah

00:25:53--> 00:25:54

alone.

00:25:54--> 00:25:55

Your sustenance

00:25:56--> 00:25:58

is determined before you were even born.

00:25:59--> 00:26:00

And there's no one,

00:26:01--> 00:26:02

not a university,

00:26:03--> 00:26:04

not a millionaire,

00:26:05--> 00:26:06

not a media outlet.

00:26:07--> 00:26:09

There is no one who can determine your

00:26:09--> 00:26:10

risk.

00:26:10--> 00:26:13

Only Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala does so. Our

00:26:13--> 00:26:15

prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam

00:26:23--> 00:26:25

The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, the

00:26:25--> 00:26:27

holy spirit, meaning Jibril alaihi salam,

00:26:28--> 00:26:29

inspired within me

00:26:30--> 00:26:31

that no soul will die

00:26:32--> 00:26:34

until it fulfills its lifespan.

00:26:36--> 00:26:37

No one can take your life before your

00:26:37--> 00:26:38

time.

00:26:39--> 00:26:40

And it receives its sustenance.

00:26:41--> 00:26:43

No one can withhold the wealth, the money

00:26:43--> 00:26:45

that Allah has portion for you.

00:26:46--> 00:26:48

It's not possible for you to die

00:26:49--> 00:26:52

without you drinking a single drop of water

00:26:52--> 00:26:53

that Allah wrote

00:26:55--> 00:26:56

that you were going to drink.

00:26:56--> 00:26:59

It's not possible for you to die without

00:26:59--> 00:27:01

a single dollar or penny to enter into

00:27:01--> 00:27:03

your account that Allah had written for it

00:27:03--> 00:27:04

to enter.

00:27:05--> 00:27:06

If it's written and decided,

00:27:07--> 00:27:09

there's nothing you can do to avoid it

00:27:09--> 00:27:10

or miss it.

00:27:10--> 00:27:11

And if we know this,

00:27:12--> 00:27:14

then why succumb to these threats?

00:27:15--> 00:27:17

Why lower your voice?

00:27:17--> 00:27:19

Why avert your eyes

00:27:19--> 00:27:22

while they commit and support and fund the

00:27:22--> 00:27:22

genocide?

00:27:31--> 00:27:32

Allah

00:27:33--> 00:27:34

says, in the heavens

00:27:36--> 00:27:37

is your sustenance and all that you have

00:27:37--> 00:27:39

been prom promised.

00:27:39--> 00:27:41

And then Allah takes an oath.

00:27:43--> 00:27:45

By the Lord of the heavens and the

00:27:45--> 00:27:47

earth, indeed this is truth.

00:27:48--> 00:27:50

Your risk is with Allah

00:27:51--> 00:27:53

Your sustenance is with Allah

00:27:54--> 00:27:56

This story reminds us that might is not

00:27:56--> 00:27:59

right. Having the money, and the power, and

00:27:59--> 00:28:01

the influence doesn't mean you're right.

00:28:01--> 00:28:03

Doesn't mean you're on the right path.

00:28:04--> 00:28:05

The man had the 2 gardens, doesn't mean

00:28:05--> 00:28:06

he's on the right path.

00:28:07--> 00:28:09

And no matter how great their wealth appears

00:28:09--> 00:28:10

to be,

00:28:11--> 00:28:14

no matter how large their money seems to

00:28:14--> 00:28:14

be,

00:28:15--> 00:28:17

if it doesn't have barakah from Allah subhanahu

00:28:17--> 00:28:18

wa ta'ala, it's insignificant.

00:28:19--> 00:28:21

It will blow with the wind.

00:28:22--> 00:28:24

At the end of the surah, Allah tells

00:28:24--> 00:28:26

us, at the end of the story, Allah

00:28:26--> 00:28:27

tells you,

00:28:30--> 00:28:30

There,

00:28:31--> 00:28:33

the authority of Allah, the of Allah, the

00:28:33--> 00:28:35

guardianship of Allah

00:28:35--> 00:28:36

is in truth.

00:28:37--> 00:28:39

And the moment that he needed his wealth,

00:28:39--> 00:28:40

where did it go?

00:28:42--> 00:28:44

This is the protection of Allah. They act

00:28:44--> 00:28:45

like they control the world.

00:28:46--> 00:28:48

They act like they control everything.

00:28:49--> 00:28:50

But the

00:28:51--> 00:28:53

in truth is with Allah

00:28:54--> 00:28:56

The true control over this world is with

00:28:56--> 00:28:56

Allah

00:28:57--> 00:28:59

And when the believer needs it, Allah will

00:28:59--> 00:29:00

give it to him.

00:29:01--> 00:29:03

And when this believer needs it, Allah subhanahu

00:29:03--> 00:29:05

wa ta'ala will deceive them.

00:29:09--> 00:29:11

This is the best reward and this is

00:29:11--> 00:29:14

the best result. The best result is for

00:29:14--> 00:29:15

the believer.

00:29:16--> 00:29:17

Believe in Allah

00:29:17--> 00:29:19

have this taqwa of Allah,

00:29:19--> 00:29:20

Allah

00:29:20--> 00:29:23

will take care of his servants. He created

00:29:23--> 00:29:24

you and to protect you.

00:29:23--> 00:29:24

you and to protect you.
